What the apps store, what leaves your device, and how to get rid of it. Written to be checked, not to be agreed to.
The short version
The apps and games on mutualist.io keep what you enter on your own device and nothing else. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, and nothing is ever sold or handed to anyone for profiling. Two things are exceptions, and both are ones you choose: turning on syncing, and writing to us.
What each app stores, and where
Every app saves to your browser's own storage on the device you are using — your habits, entries, settings and progress. It is not sent anywhere, and we cannot read it. If you clear your browser data, it is gone, which is why each app can write its data out to a file from its settings.
The apps also fetch a small file of announcements from this site so they can show a notice when something changes. That is an ordinary request for a public file. Nothing about you is sent with it, and no notice is targeted at anyone.
If you turn syncing on
All five apps can keep their data in step across your devices. It is off unless you switch it on, every app is complete without it, and you can switch it back off.
While it is on:
- You sign in with Google. We receive a Google account identifier and store that. We do not store your name or your email address, and we ask Google for nothing beyond confirming who you are.
- That app's own data — the same habits, entries and settings described above — is copied to a database we run on Supabase, hosted in Frankfurt, Germany. It is sent over an encrypted connection and is readable only by the account that wrote it.
- Nothing else travels. Not which screens you open, not when you open them, not how often, not what device you are on.
The copy is there so a second device signed in as you can pick it up. It is not looked at, not analysed, and not shared.
When you write to us
The contact form asks for a name, an email address and a message; the project form also asks what kind of thing you want built and for which platform. That goes to Netlify, who run the form handling for this site, and reaches us by email. We use it to answer you, and for nothing else. We never add you to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list.
What we never do
- No analytics of any kind, on the site or in the apps. No page-view counting, no session recording, no error reporting that carries your data.
- No advertising, no advertising identifiers, no tracking pixels, no cookies for any of it.
- No selling, renting or sharing of anything you enter, to anybody, for any price.
- No profiling, and no automated decisions about you.
Who else is involved
Being exact matters more here than sounding clean, so here is everyone in the chain:
- Netlify hosts this site and runs the two forms. Like any web host, its servers log the requests they serve, which includes your IP address. We do not use those logs for anything and do not connect them to anything else.
- Google Fonts serves the typeface these pages use, so Google sees the request for it. It carries nothing you have typed. This happens on the pages of the site itself, whether or not you use any app.
- Google also signs you in, but only if you turn syncing on. If you never do, no app here contacts Google at all.
- Supabase stores the synced copy, in Frankfurt, again only if you turn syncing on.
Each of these is used for the one job named, under its own terms as our processor. There is nobody else.
How long it is kept, and how to delete it
Data on your device stays until you delete it — from within the app, or by clearing your browser data.
A synced copy stays until you remove it. The same screen that turns syncing on turns it off, and turning it off deletes the stored copy rather than merely disconnecting from it. Your device keeps its own data and carries on working, because the copy on your device was always the real one.
Messages you send through the forms are kept as long as they are useful for answering you. Ask us and we will delete yours.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to erase it. For synced data the app answers all four faster than we can: it is on your device already, it exports to a file, and the disconnect button erases the copy. For anything else, or if you would rather we did it, write to us and we will.
Children
These apps are not aimed at children and ask for nothing that would identify one. We do not knowingly keep data from a child. If you believe a child has synced data here, tell us and we will remove it.
Changes to this page
If what leaves your device changes, this page changes with it, and so does the about page. Nothing here is written to leave room for a later reinterpretation, and the date below says when it was last true.
